MidOcean Partners, the leading investment company in the Private Equity Midmarket, and Bushnell Outdoor Products, the 60-year world leader of sports optics, quality eyewear and outdoor accessories, today announced that Bushnell has purchased the Simmons? brand and a certain number of shares in the Simmons Outdoor Corporation from Meade Instruments Corp, a public company in California.
Simmons is the supplier of very high quality innovative optics and the acquisition includes the complete range of telescopes, binoculars and visors. The acquisition develops the family of outdoor brands that are part of Bushnell Outdoor Products. Since 1983, Simmons has supplied high performance equipment for hunting and sports with the Master Series? range of telescopes. For hunters and sports fans, the compact Simmon's ProSport? and the range of full-size binoculars: optics with complete multilayer treatment for high vision clarity.
“The range of Simmons optics is a strategic resource and invaluable added value for our company” said Bushnell Outdoor Products president and CEO Joe Messner. “We will continue to guarantee the very high levels of quality and service that Simmons’ loyal customers have been used to for the past 30 years” Messner added.
"The acquisition of the Simmons range is consistent with MidOcean's strategy of increasing the Bushnell platform with strategic acquisitions" declared David Basto, a director at MidOcean Partners. "Our aim is to identify interesting brands that we can improve through the expert use of distribution channels and the experience of Bushnell’s management."
The parties entered into a final acquisition agreement and the transaction was concluded June 12, 2008. Simmons is the 7th Bushnell acquisition since 2001. The most recent was the 2007 acquisition of the Kolpin? and Final Approach? brands. The first was Michael's of Oregon in 2005 with the Uncle Mike’s?, Hoppe’s?, Butler Creek?, Stoney Point? and Uncle Mike’s Law Enforcement? brands. The Tasco? sports optics brand was bought in 2002 and the top-range Bollé? and Serengeti? eyewear brands with the Moonlight night visors in 2001.
